0 Jay-Z Won't Respond To Beanie Sigel, According To Memphis Bleek

Via MTV:

Obviously, with Bleek and Jay, their relationship is based on more than music.
Bleek said he thought Beanie Sigel and Jay had that same bond. Just like many
fans, Memph said he was shocked that Beans came out dissing him and Jay. Just
this week, during a live show in Philadelphia, Beans spit his flames at Jay and
Bleek again, rapping, "Memph Bleek pee the sheets/ Leave the bed all wetty."

"My thing is, what's the purpose?" Bleek said about Sigel's outburst.
"You said all you had to say. You said you wasn't gonna say no more until Jay
called you. He ain't call. Everything you said ain't adding up. It becomes a
point, what are you doing it for? Are you doing it to get you a deal? Are you
doing it to get you hot, doing it to get you back on the radio? That's all I
wanna know. Anybody knows if you come at Hov, you're not stopping his movement.
C'mon, it's stupid. We been there before. We seen this movie. I hate to
elaborate on it, because it's like I'm breathing life on a situation that really
don't need no life to it."

Bleek said he spoke to Beans the night before the Powerhouse show in Philadelphia last year, and the Broad Street Bully gave him no indication that there was any ill will.

0 Drake Speaks On Thank Me Later 1st Single; "Over"

Via Rap-Up:

The wait is almost over. Drake has selected the first single from his highly-anticipated debut album.

The first offering from Thank Me Later will be called “Over.” Drizzy exclusively tells Rap-Up.com that the track was produced by fellow Canadian Boi-1da, who is responsible for two of his biggest hits, “Best I Ever Had” and “Forever.”

The Young Money signee went through a painstaking process before choosing the right single. “Before I start working a single, I need to get about 10, 15, 20 songs done so I can pick from a batch of music as opposed to just committing to something right now,” he told Rap-Up.com in November. “It takes a lot for me to put a song onto that list. It’s gotta be a real great song. It’s gotta be something that I feel is timeless and is better than anything that I’ve ever done.”

The album, due this spring, is expected to feature collaborations with Jay-Z (“Light Up”), Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, and The-Dream (“Shut It Down”), as well as production from Kanye West, Noah “40” Shebib, and Tone Mason.

0 XXL Magazine Reveals First Four Freshman Of 2010

Via MTV:

Last month, 10 up-and-coming MCs started getting fresh like it was their first day of school. They had to be camera-ready to shoot the annual "Freshman 10" issue of XXL magazine. The special edition of the publication has become a hip-hop tradition, as they give the nod to 10 mic masters they feel will be the next big stars.

In 2008, names like Saigon, Lil Boosie and Plies made the cut, while last year, B.o.B, Charles Hamilton, Wale and Asher Roth graced the cover. Other members of the '09 class were Kid Cudi, Ace Hood, Curren$y, Blu, Mickey Factz and Cory Gunz.

XXL Editor in Chief Vanessa Satten said the editorial staff started deciding the 2010 class two months ago. Besides their own research, they also took recommendations from the magazine's editors at large and freelance writers.

"It's always interesting to assemble the guys, because you don't know what kind of vibe you're gonna get," Satten said about the photo shoot. "The first [class in 2008], they were kinda brooding. They were kind of boring on the actual shoot. The second one, they were exciting. This year, we didn't know what to expect from them, because the first two [classes] were so opposite of each other. You never know what you can expect when you get those 10 rappers together. It could be pretty much anything.

"You're not dealing with divas like you normally do with a bigger cover," she added. "But at the same time, you're dealing with people who've got these insecurities, who are not used to the situation and not as recognizable. You gotta get them to be a bit more animated and be a little bit more interesting so the photos could be spectacular. It's a little different when you put a bigger star on the cover."

0 Birdman Talks Life, Business & Cash Money w/ Ozone Magazine

Ozone: How did you become so business savvy?

Birdman: I was just born with that shit, brah. When you have a business you need to know to budget, spend, and manage. I think those are the three hardest things to do in business. If you don’t do those things, your business is gonna go under. I was just blessed to know how to do those things [as well as] hustle. Honestly, you gotta hustle and know how to flip money. And to flip money, you’ve got to always get new money. Niggas be trying to hold on to old money and they don’t spend it, but you’ve gotta keep flipping that shit.

Ozone: What’s the worst business investment you’ve made throughout your career?

Birdman: Probably the worst investment I did was fuckin’ with R. Kelly. That was a waste of my time. I could’ve made money if I wasn’t fuckin’ with that clown-ass nigga.

Ozone: How has your music been able to evolve so well over the years?

Birdman: I’m talented. I stay around talent, and I’m able to adjust to the time. You got niggas who still think its ’98, man. It’s not ’98, it’s 2009! I did the “Bling Bling” era, but that shit is over, and you’ve gotta let that go. I think niggas be caught up in the past and then you’ve got older niggas who are still trying to rap, still trying to make hits, and can’t. You’ve got to be able to change. I was fortunate enough to know to let my son go, and to just fuck with him. It’s his world. I’m gonna rock with him and these young niggas, support what they’re trying to do, and make them more successful.

Ozone: Speaking of working with new, young artists, what did you see in Drake early on, and what made him sign to Cash Money?

Birdman: Man, that nigga Drake is cold as a motherfucker! That boy’s bad, man. That young nigga’s got some wordplay. He’s gonna be around for a long time. I was more than impressed, I wished I would’ve been knew [about him]. My son been knew, but I didn’t. Drake’s a bad motherfucker. That nigga can rap his ass off, and he can sing. He’s not just an artist; he’s like Wayne, he’s all around with it and what I love about him more than anything is [that] he understands the leadership. He know who’s the Kobe, who’s the Phil Jackson, ya heard me. And we’ve got everything on our team.

0 Complex Blog: Shots At The Throne? The Sneakiest Disses About Jay-Z

On the classic “Dear Summer,” Jay-Z clearly stated, “It’s like when niggas make

may not respect it, but as our list of Hov’s sneakiest dis lines showed, he’ll
definitely address it. The man we crowned as “The King of Subliminal Shots” has
thrown hidden darts at everyone from Nas and Mase to 50 Cent and recent Complex cover boys, Clipse, but he’s far from a bully or overly-sensitive. How could he

0 Lil Wayne Covers Rolling Stone + Speaks On Carter 4 & Going To Jail

For a decade, Lil Wayne has been hip-hop’s great unstoppable force, a
24-hour-a-day recording machine without an off button. But on February 9th, Lil
Wayne will have to stop — for 12 months, when he reports to prison to serve a
sentence for gun possession stemming from a 2007 arrest in New York City.
Rolling Stone stays up all night with Weezy as he prepares to get locked down in
our new issue, which is on sale at newsstands today.

“I don’t like to stop,” Wayne tells RS‘ Chris Norris. “I believe you stop when you die.” So in the weeks before he reports to Rikers Island, Wayne is keeping busy — recording tracks bound for Tha Carter IV (the album Cash Money staffers call “C4″ because it’ll be the bomb), shooting videos with his Young Money protégés, spending time with his growing family, and deliberately not asking anyone for advice about life on the inside. “This is Lil Wayne going to jail. Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like,” he says. “I just say I’m looking forward to it.”
