0 J .Cole Blogs About Life, Debut Album & More

In the latest edition of Karen Civil's "In My Own Words" segment, Fayetteville's own J .Cole, hops behind the keyboard to give fans an update on his life, his debut album and more. Here's a bit of what he had to say:

"Karen finally caught up with a nigga. I was supposed to write this three months ago, but I’ve been so busy. Let me give you an example of how my day has been:

-I had to go to the studio on Thursday, so I got there around 5
-I get home around 5 in the morning
-Then I had to catch a 9 a.m. flight only to have a show in Georgia at 11 p.m. which ended at 1:30.
-So I drive back to Atlanta. Get to the A at 3:30 to catch at 6 a.m. flight to Upstate N.Y.
-I then ride to Long Island and do a show there.

That’s the type of schedule it is right now. The type of chaos I’m pretty much going through, which, please don’t mistake me, I’m forever grateful for all of it. But it is somewhat overwhelming when you go from a nigga that was doing beats in his bedroom, to try and write songs and you kind of looking for things to do. It’s hectic but its all for the best and all of this work is going to lead to something that will pay off in the end.

I’m working on the album. Oh my god! I’m like getting more excited about the album everyday that goes by, every week that passes by. People around me and my team feel I have a classic on my hands. They always want to tell me like, “Yo you good, you don’t really need anything else.” Honestly, I don’t feel like. I feel that I can drop another song that was crazier than all the other shit that was on the album. So, the album keeps getting better and better mainly due to the fact I’m not satisfied because I know all the people that are coming out this year. This is an incredible year for music. There will be a bunch of big albums in 2010. I just have to put my best foot forward basically because if not, these dudes are going to try and crush me. Like, for example, I just keep thinking Kanye is coming with some shit. I already know he is gonna kill the game, so I just want to come out and make a splash. A big splash".

0 Drake Speaks On Finishing "Thank Me Later" + Gives Props To J. Cole

It appears Drake has finally wrapped up the recording process for "Thank Me Later" and so he took the time via his blog, to let fans know whats good and offer kudos to J. Cole, who I hear killed his show @ S.O.B's Last Night:

The sun just came out. I mean I haven't seen it yet cause I am in the studio but I know it did. So good morning. I am working on the last song for Thank Me Later. What a different journey it's been this go round. I wish I could share so much more with you but there are just too many new people involved who have dedicated their time to "the reveal". Should I just post the entire thing up now and say no the methods and yes to the mayhem???? Ha. I'd love too, but this is something special that I feel needs to be delivered to you in the way you deserve it to be. Remember the days of well thought out visuals, album thank you's, funk flex rants, all the things that came with the release of a new album, the things we'd look forward too...well I hope I can make you remember. I've worked hard on this body of work and I feel like every artist involved has given me their absolute best. I cannot wait till it's yours. The relief I will experience on release day will be euphoric. I look in peoples eyes and see not so much the doubt, but the uncertainty, the question that looms...and whatever the answer is I think we're both ready for it. These overwhelming moments are to be cherished. On that note fond readers, I will see u soon somewhere along the way. Mr. Walters pull the car around front...its time to go home.

"History will be kind to me...for I intend to write it"

- Winston Churchill

(I heard J Cole was incredible at SOB's tonight...mazel tov and enjoy the high my good man! )

0 KarenCivil.Com Chronicles The Rise & Fall Of Charles Hamilton

A couple of days ago, I was talking to a friend of mine and we were discussing Charles Hamilton's noticeable absence from hip-hop. In the past, Charles was dropping mix tapes and new songs on an almost weekly basis. However, in recent months Charles Hamilton, has not released any music, updated his blog or his Twitter. Leaving many fans wondering about his whereabouts. About a day after this conversation, Rap Radar revealed that the artist had been dropped from his contract with Interscope. The good folks over at KarenCivil.Com cooked up a great Vh1 Behind The Music-esque article chronicling the personal and professional ups and downs which led to "The Rise & Fall Of Charles Hamilton". Below is a snippett of the aritcle:

...Charles was finding success in the public eye, things were not as progressive behind closed doors. Disagreements with his Demevolist management team were a frequent occurrence. Before long, Hamilton would cut all ties with them, his Violator affiliation and any form of management all together. At this point, his mindstate was geared towards taking steps he thought were best for his career, not what anyone else said or mentioned.

In the midst of the turmoil, he would begin his public relationship with Briana Latrise, the step-daughter of R&B icon, Mary J. Blige. The move stunned fans because, via his blog on several occasions, Hamilton would constantly document his love for pop star, Rihanna. Fact is, Hamilton never knew Rihanna, let alone be romantically linked to her. Rihanna was, in fact, “code” for Briana. Things would continue to spiral downhill after a much publicized beef with Soulja Boy did not turn out in his favor. However, one of the most crushing blows to his public image was a YouTube video of Briana punching him in the face after he jokingly remarked on her receiving an abortion.

0 Drake Explains Reasoning Behind "So Far Gone" Re- Release

As you may already know, Drake is planning to re-release his now classic mixtape, "So Far Gone" to retail. (Click Here For More Info) However, many fans were left scratching their heads after a leak of the album revealed that the retail version would only contain 7 tracks, 2 of which being "Im Goin In" Ft Lil Wayne and "Fear" a previously unreleased track, neither of which appeared on the original "So Far Gone". In the midst of all the confusion, Drake took to his blog to explain why he felt "So Far Gone" needed to be re-released:

"People often ask me the craziest part about becoming "famous" and I've never had an answer until yesterday.

"You'll spend half of your time defending yourself and the other half trying to stay sane resulting in you being forced to find time to be creative"

I often wonder in a time where new artists exist in a impersonal cyber world of instantaneous information, if we will ever have another rap legend that can manage to maintain the image that our idols had prior to this method of promotion. I am not suggesting that this person should be me, I am just urging a generation to understand that in order to have anyone of any significance in our lives that we can look up to there will be things that we must look past. There are people that buy sell and trade evil on a daily basis...when u believe in their brand is when they win" - Drake
